We’re Shagun, and we might look a little familiar. In India, every new beginning arrives with something sweet: a box at the door, a laddoo at the altar, a piece of katli pressed into your hand for luck. We’re those sweets, made to stay a little longer. Katli, mithai roll and laddoo each hold a little oil or ghee and a cotton wick, or a single flower. Ghughara opens up to keep kumkum or gud. Modak has a surprise inside: lift it and it rings like a tiny temple bell. The sweetness stays. Only the occasion changes.
Creator’s Notes
We wanted mithai to carry ceremony, and to keep it for longer: a set of sweets that comes out again at every griha pravesh, wedding, first Diwali and first day.
Each piece began as a master, carved in wood and refined by hand until the proportions felt right. From these masters the pieces are cast again and again in brass, copper and aluminium, then mirror-buffed and coated to shine. Each casting keeps a little of its own texture, so no two are exactly alike.
