I am Saraswati, keeper of knowledge, music and the arts.
My veena rests across my lap, a lotus holds me up, and a halo catches the light behind me.
Creator’s Notes
We wanted to approach the familiar image of Saraswati differently: not by recreating a goddess, but by distilling her most distinctive features and humanising her.
Her body is turned in teak on a precision lathe, and the parts are joined with brass rods. The lotus beneath her is made of sevan wood petals, each cut individually and arranged one by one around a circle. Behind her is a halo of yellow glass framed in brass. Her necklace is strung from small beads in materials we love, and a piece of lapis lazuli forms the base of her veena.
